The Important Stats
The bow itself is incredibly light, weighing 3.2lbs and it measures 31” axle to axle. Highly wieldy, this is a superb choice for young adults and hunters that need to keep it light out in the field. The riser is durable aluminum and the limbs are made of flexible and sturdy e-glass fiber. The single cam and idler wheel system are machined aluminum and fire at a smooth maximum of 313 FPS, IBO standard. The grip is nothing in particular to write home about, but it comfortably does its job and protects against broadheads while minimizing torque. Overall, you’re getting a long lasting bow with a quality build made from industry standard materials.
While Bowtech’s Diamond Core isn’t the most customizable bow, it has a lot to offer and suits a wide range of needs. The draw length and weight can be adjusted at home without any special tools. The length can be set anywhere between 25” and 30”, giving it some leeway.
Draw Weight of the Diamond Core
Equally as adjustable is the draw weight, which can range from 40lbs to 70lbs. Although it is not as adjustable as the Bear Cruzer, most hunters only need from 60-70lbs of adjustment. Both length and weight are a breeze to configure with the built in bolts and modules.
It isn’t the best for children due to the higher minimum draw weight, but it is perfect for any beginner that has the muscle to handle at least 40lbs of draw weight. The 80% let-off is another reason the Diamond Core is a superior bow. While 40lbs may be a lot for a green archer, the ample 80% let-off will considerably reduce the strength needed to maintain draw and gives the user more time and stamina to set the pin. That makes practicing easier and provides an edge while hunting due to less fatigue.
The Bow Package
The Diamond by Bowtech comes with all of the basic accessories one would expect from a package deal. They certainly aren’t top of the line, but they are enough for a beginner hunter and they won’t stop you from harvesting deer.
The three pin Apex sight comes from TRUGLO, a well known sight brand. Also included are Octane’s Hostage XL arrow rest, Dead-Lock Lite quiver, and stabilizer. String silencers, string loop, and alloy 5” peep complete the RAK package.
I strongly recommend upgrading some of the gear, especially the sight, for optimal performance. However, what suits one hunter may not suit another, so at least give the stock attachments a try. Even beginners will find themselves hitting their mark in no time as they practice with this package. Take a look at the Infinity Edge also made by Diamond for another fully loaded bow.
Thoughts on the RAK Package
All in all, the Diamond Core RAK package is a great value and won’t disappoint. The bow fires quietly and very smoothly. It has enough speed to take down game while being manageable for low poundage archers.
True to the brand, Bowtech’s Diamond is very accurate and reliable with quality single cam construction. Everything a beginner would need to go hunting is included, arrows and release aside. It’s a great first bow and very forgiving, but also makes for a reputable second, third, or fourth bow. Experienced archers who have used many other brands don’t balk at the Diamond by Bowtech - they embrace it readily.
Of course, some of the accessories may need to be replaced as style and preference develops. The sight in particular is weak and could be higher quality.
Even though it is quiet and smooth, there can be some vibration felt in the riser. The 80% let-off is fantastic, but sometimes can be abrupt and jarring. The single cam setup leads to some idler lean, although that is a minor gripe compared to the great performance. Keep in mind that accidental dry firing may cause the string to snap - so be careful and, of course, have the bow setup correctly before hitting the range.
Final Thoughts on Bowtech's Diamond Core
Bowtech’s Diamond Core is easily one of the best and more affordable packages on the market. It fills the needs of beginners and experienced users. It is often recommended by pro archers and shops to fledgling archers, and rightfully so. It’s hard to go wrong with Bowtech and their incredible customer service.
