The Brite-Site Xtreme is an affordable TRUGLO 5 pin sight option. At a glance it has a list of nice features for a basic entry level scope, which will fulfill the needs of most beginner archers. This is also a great choice for replacing stock gear that came with a hunting package. However, it is by no means a durable high end product.
TRUGLO Brite-Site Xtreme Details
TRUGLO’s Brite-Site Xtreme features bright and large .029” diameter pins. These larger pins mean that they are brighter, even in low light and dark situations, compared to smaller pins. This also means that they will cover up more of the target than a .019” or .010” pin. It will be more difficult to select exactly where you want to place your arrow, which may make it harder to hit vital organs.
However, the large pin size is a good idea for hunters and 3D shooters who have poor vision. The pins are located on two different horizontal bars, which adds spacing between them to fit all five in the 2” sight housing. This large housing makes for a nice clear picture, despite the five large pins. The Xtreme also has a glow in the dark sight ring to make lining up the peep easier and faster.
TRUGLO 5 Pin Construction Details
Also included is a bubble level inset into the bottom of the housing. Buyer beware, this level is often missing from shipments and is highly likely to fall out after gentle use of the sight. There is also a spot for a removable battery powered light, which does come included. However, it is worth noting that this light is unreliable and usually does not work out of the box.
If it does work it may not last very long, even with fresh batteries, due to its poor design and cheap parts. It uses LR41 button batteries, which should be easy to find. In the event that the light does work properly it shouldn’t eat through the batteries too quickly. Defective lights have a symptom of appearing to burn through the batteries rapidly.
Even though this TRUGLO 5 pin sight does not have the most robust features, it is still very accurate and a good piece of equipment in terms of barebones performance. Sight in your five pins at varying yards and that is it. Pin adjustments are done with allen wrenches, which can be a bit tedious while out in the field. Hopefully at that point, with five pins to work with, no changes will be necessary. Fortunately, the elevation and windage adjustments are tool-less with graduated markings.
Aside from the issues with the sight level and broken lights, the quality of the sight itself is decent. Made of CNC machined aluminum it is more durable than if it were entirely plastic. The only other issue to be aware of is sometimes the elevation screw can get stripped and become locked up. The overall construction is by no means top notch, but it will do its job for a couple seasons. Its reversible design makes it usable for both right and left handed bows. It also has holes for mounting a quiver.
Trull Brite Site Xtreme Sight Review Conclusion
For an inexpensive TRUGLO 5 pin sight you are getting reasonable features you would come to expect in a standard sight but not much else. The affordability makes this an appealing choice for beginners who are just getting their feet wet and veterans who need a quick and affordable fix for the upcoming season. Just keep in mind that the quality of the construction is iffy at best and the light is highly likely to be defunct upon arrival or shortly after. The large bright pins may make up for that, though, and negate the need for an external light source. All in all, it is not a bad purchase for a budget archer.
